@cokerainbows To be fair (I am an American) you are correct to some extent there are many Americans that feel that way, I would say about half. However, please keep in mind it is more the American media's fault than the people themselves. If they don't have the opportunity to be exposed to anything but what is projected to them (and it is shoved down our throats i.e. television, radio, and news) we can't necessarily blame them for having that attitude. But I feel you on that thought.

All adverts play towards insecurities. For women it's insecurities about their looks and usefulness as a wife and mother, for men it's insecurities about being masculine and definitely DEFINITELY not gay.

@THOUSANDAlRE Jesus - you're kidding? I never saw that advert? Was that in the US? We had one in the UK that was taken off because it was sexist towards men - the tagline sadi 'So easy, even a man can do it!' It was a horrible, pathetic and ridiculous advert and got lots of complaints thank God!

@cokerainbows Americans still think the Brits wear bowler hats, carry umbrellas, wear eyeglasses and say things like 'Tallyho' and 'old chap'! They live in their own little world where nothing happens outside America and America is the beginning and end of everything! It's very sad!

@cokerainbows you would WANT to experience childbirth???! Are you kidding?! What is wrong with you! It's the most painful thing on earth - pushing a watermelon out of something the size of a lemon, nerve endings crushed, being cut & stitched up without pain relief - yes that sounds like fun! Women die every day giving birth - why would you want to experience something like that?!

@Rachiejane1 yeah obviously theres pain but joy as well. no one said childbirth is easy, we all know it hurts like hell, is tiring etc etc but im sure the exerpience of bringing life into the world would be amazing, i think any mother would say that, its a very unique experience.

That sort of advertising isn't pejoratively sexist, that's stupid. The advertising that's spoofed here plays on the sort of ideas most likely to SELL things to either sex. With women it's making them feel insecure, with men it's a fake sense of self assured perfection. In both cases it's fantasy, it doesn't appeal to all, but it does make money and that's why they do it.
The skit doesn't pronounce a judgement on it, it just shows you how painfully obvious and silly it is.

@Rachiejane1 im guessing because of the child afterwards? anyway you show a programme of a woman screaming her head off while giving birth to any of the women in my family and they'll all say its overdone, and its not that painful. i mean just because your a woman doesnt mean you have to be such a wimp, perhaps its because alot of women arent exposed to such physical pain these days i dunno? is that me being sexist or is it true?

@69Jarhead69 Not sure of anyone who is exposed to such physical pain these days other than in childbirth... I don't get your point. Perhaps the women in your family didn't have that much of a painful time? Also, after women give birth, they forget some of the pain because of the baby & because mother nature wants them to want to have more & if they remembered how painful it is then they never would. However, during childbirth, it is excruciating - no woman would say 'it's not that painful'!!

@ThePickledTheif They play to general female/male ways of thinking. Men tend to think they're pretty OK and don't need that much improving and women think they look awful and a magic cream will make them look better...it's sad but true!

@ThePickledTheif no they should be trying to sell shit. That is the purpose of a commercial. The more self esteem you have the less shit you think you need. Why would advertisers deliberately undermine themselves by raising women's self esteem?

@ThePickledTheif Unfortunately gunterdak is right - advertisers don't care if women feel crap about themselves - trhey want to keep it that way so they can make money. That's the sad truth of the world of advertising (and basically the world in general)
