Besides, if the war was declared (which would have made it legal) with the explicit purpose of freeing slaves.. what you say might have a credibility factor to it. But it is an amazing leap of faith that a president alone working against the racist north, racist south got a war going against each other. no, i think once abe lincoln was elected, the south went through a process of sucession. he was elected in November 1860, South Carolina succeeded in December 1860, and the Confederacy was formed by February of 1861 with the addition of 6 more states.

It is an unfortunate part of human nature that things we are taught as young children we instinctively believe as truth without enough evidence and grow up to defend it.. even against clear evidence to the contrary. See if you can overcome that.

if you're refering to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, i'd hardly blame that on the northerners! secondly, a lot of people who fought for the Union wanted to abolish slavery. it was a very fundamentally ideological war where brothers killed brothers and uncles killed nephews. like i mentioned, lincoln (the man perpetuating the war) had four brother-in-laws fighting for the confederacy!!!

As to whether govt schools brainwash kids.. I think yes, same as religious schools would, they have a vested interest in teaching kids a particular way and particular things.

well first of all being against expansion of slavery and being abolitionist weren't necessarily exclusive because a majority of Americans believed suppressing the expansion of slavery would lead to its extinction. "abolitionists" were just seen as more radical.
